The silverback is the dominant male in the family. While he weighs about 500 pounds he is a peaceful gentle giant who spends his days eating bamboo and other plants.

Witnessing wild gorillas first hand!

A strictly controlled process exists for human visitors. The gorillas are well known to the rangers who check on them daily and ensure no signs of illness, injury, or poachers are present. Families who have been habituated to human presence can be viewed. A maximum of 8 guests are allowed to accompany rangers and watch a gorilla family for up to one hour. You must stay masked for their protection - our gorilla cousins share about 95% of our DNA!

The rare Golden Monkey

These endangered monkeys live in large social groups and are highly active. They share the same mountain habitat as the gorillas (and forest elephants, buffalo, and other animals).
As with the gorillas, there is a strict procedure in place for human visitors.
